IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM SUPERINTENDENT POTTS REGARDING COVID-19 UPDATES

East Dubuque Families,

We have tried very hard to be as transparent with all of the information that we get regarding COVID and the guidance we have from the State or the County.  We received updated guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and had a phone conversation with our County department about this guidance.  I have attached the updated guidance for you below:

September Update IDPH Guidance and Exclusion.pdf

This guidance has not changed, but there is a second page for our nurse or county health care workers to consider for kids that may have pre-existing conditions.  For example, students that may have allergies which may look like symptoms of COVID may not have to quarantine if they go home due to these symptoms.  As always, please contact us or the health department with any questions.  The County Health Dept. phone number is:  1-815-777-0263.

We also have a better understanding of the process that happens if a student needs to quarantine due to exposure of a positive case.  As we reported earlier, if we are notified of a positive case we immediately determine the kids in that cohort or in close contact on the bus that have to quarantine.  As a district we will make the first contact with those parents.  We also notify the County Health Department immediately and give them the list of students to quarantine and the contact information for those families.  They will then contact families and direct them from there.  Families will need to get registered into the state system and do a health update each day during the quarantine.  That update takes only a minute and notifies the system that there are no symptoms.  At the end of the quarantine period it generates a letter for us at school so we know that we can allow the student to return to in-person learning.

Thank you for helping us work through this process.  We are still learning and will continue to be flexible as we learn more.  I can say that our understanding of this guidance was in line with what the County Health Department explained and they endorsed the method in which we are keeping kids in small cohorts.

We will keep working and we will keep you updated as we go.  As always, safety will be our guide.  If you have questions please reach out to me at tpotts@edbqhs.org.
