JH Weight Wars
Student Council members-Owen, Katie, and Tierney-pose with all the donated items.
The East Dubuque Junior High Student Council conducted a successful battle against poverty in the East Dubuque area. February 3 - February 14 the JHSC sponsored Weight Wars; a competition among all the third period classes in the JH School. After much trash talk, accusations of cheating, and bags upon bags of non perishable items being brought in, Mr. Heil's 3rd hour 8th Grade English crew pulled off the victory, registering 921 pounds of items. All food is donated to our very own East Dubuque Food Pantry, to distribute to those individuals in need in our community. The JH raised a total of 2,230 pounds, nearly doubling the take of the previous year's Weight War competition. This was a great service project that gives back to our community.
Mr. Heil's 8th graders will receive a pizza party sponsored by the JH Student Council, along with the honor be being allowed to pie a teacher, of their choice, in the face during lunch!
The Junior High Student Council would like to send out a special thank you to all the parents who encouraged their young adults to participate by sending food to school with them during the competition. The JHSC does apologize if some parents' pantries have been completely emptied. Thank you Parents!
